Firefighters are attending a fire at the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Lloyd Street in Altrincham.
Fire engines from Sale, Altrincham and Wythenshawe were called to the scene at 11.13 this morning after reports of a fire involving an oven.
They discovered a fire involving two ovens in the bakery section.
Staff and customers were evacuated while firefighters used a hose to extinguish the blaze, aided by the store’s sprinklers. A thermal imaging camera and a ladder was also used.
Firefighters are still on the scene at the time of writing but are expected to leave shortly.
The store reopened at around 2pm this afternoon.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Our Altrincham store has reopened after it was temporarily closed earlier today. We’re apologising to customers for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
