Chelsea and England footballer Danny Drinkwater has been charged with drink-driving after a car crash in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Police were called to the one-vehicle crash involving a Range Rover on Ashley Road in Mere at 00:30 yesterday morning.
Two women and a man were were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Cheshire Police said.
It’s understood Drinkwater, a former pupil at Altrincham College of Arts, had earlier attended a charity event at Victors in Hale.
A Cheshire Police statement read: “A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire.
“Danny Drinkwater, of Bollington Lane, was arrested shortly after 12.30am on Monday 8 April following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere.
“He has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 May.”
Drinkwater, who has won three England caps, was part of Leicester’s Premier League title-winning team in 2016 before transferring to Chelsea in a £35m deal in 2017.
