Well Green Primary School has opened a new £20,000 activity track after half the funds were raised by parents and pupils.
The track at the Hale Barns school was partly funded by the school but the additional £10,000 was raised by pupils and their families through its Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
The new track is already being put through its paces by the school’s 245 pupils, who use it in weekly PE lessons and running The Daily Mile.
Headteacher Kate Markham said: “We’re delighted with the activity track, the children are enjoying using it and we’re looking forward to the warmer weather when it will really come into its own.
“I’d like to thank the PTA, the pupils and their families who supported all our fundraising efforts, which included bake and takes, a disco, a summer BBQ and the Christmas Fair they all enabled us to raise such a large amount of money.”
The ceremonial ribbon-cutting was done by Simon Dow, community sports manager at Altrincham Football Club, and teaching assistant Angela George.
Angela has been selected to be a member of Team GB’s Age Group ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon at the European Championships, which take place in Spain next month.
