Police have this morning cordoned off Timperley in order to make a controlled explosion after an attempted robbery on the Co-op supermarket overnight.
Officers were called to Stockport Road at around 3.15 this morning to reports of an attempted cash machine explosion robbery.
The offenders did not make off with any cash and the explosion failed.
But police discovered parts of the explosive device at the scene and a bomb disposal unit, together with numerous emergency vehicles, has been called to the scene. A bomb disposal robot is being used at the scene.
Police say a controlled explosion will be carried out “as a precaution”.
As of 7.45 this morning, Timperley village remains completely closed off in all directions with some people evacuated from houses in the village.
Police say the cordon is likely to remain in place “for some time”.
