The Household Waste Recycling Centre is going to reopen, it’s been confirmed.
Trafford Council says the Woodhouse Lane facility, off Sinderland Lane, will reopen “in early May”.
We reported yesterday how the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), which owns all 20 centres within Greater Manchester, had agreed at an emergency meeting to reopen “some” of the centres.
And Altrincham has now been confirmed as one of those that will be opening initially, with “strict measures” in place to maintain social distancing.
Exact opening times are still to be agreed and will be released soon.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Air Quality, Environment and Climate Change, said: “It is good news for Trafford residents who need to dispose of their waste that recycling centres across Greater Manchester will reopen soon.
“However, there will be strict measure in place for in order to protect the public and staff working at the sites.”
Meanwhile, the council has warned that anyone caught fly-tipping during the coronavirus pandemic will be prosecuted.
It comes after a steady increase in incidents of people dumping rubbish recently.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Air Quality, Environment and Climate Change, said: “I acknowledge the difficulties residents are facing managing their waste at this time but there is no excuse for fly-tipping.
“We will continue to take a tough line on incidents of fly-tipping and will keep on investigating all reports with a view to prosecuting those responsible.”
