A man from Hale who drove his Bentley at 96mph on a North Wales road has been fined.
Charles Geoffrey Elliott, 57, of Park Lane, broke the speed limit on the A487 in Y Felinheli on July 4th.
He did not appear at Caernarfon Magistrates Court, the Daily Post reported, but pleaded guilty to driving excessive speed via a letter from his solicitor.
He was fined £495 and must pay a £50 victim surcharge and £150 towards court costs. He also received six penalty points on his licence.
Prosecutor Diane Williams told the court that Elliott had been driving at 10.05pm when he was recorded by a police officer with a laser device as travelling at 96mph in a 60mph zone.
In the defending solicitors’ letter, the firm said their client had instructed them to indicate that he pleaded guilty. They added that “very few, if any, other road users were affected by the driving”, and noted that the police officer had accepted it was a “quiet” night.
