BBC Sport presenter Mark Chapman has been unveiled as a new director of Altrincham FC.

Chapman, who grew up in Altrincham and still lives in the town, is a well-known voice and face on the BBC, presenting shows including Match of the Day 2 and Sports Report and The Monday Night Club on Radio 5 Live.

The 48-year-old recently qualified as a sporting director after becoming one of the first to undertake a Master of Sport Directorship course at Manchester Metropolitan University.

And recently-filed documents at Companies House have revealed his appointment at the Robins, who are still chasing a first win in this season’s National League.

Speaking at the time about the course, Chapman said: “Over the last 10 years I’ve been lucky to work on so many different sports and can hopefully see some of the things that have worked and some that haven’t.

“There are so many more facets to a club or county or franchise than there were 10 years ago, let alone 20 or 30. I think the Sporting Director role will become increasingly important going forward.”

Altrincham FC, which recently went full-time for the first time in its history, is also set to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs to offer fans the opportunity to purchase an ownership stake in the club.
