Police have appealed for more information after two boys were apparently invited to get into a taxi while they were walking to school.
The “isolated incident” happened as the boys – aged 11 and 12 – were walking on Moss Lane in Hale at approximately 8:45am on Thursday.
An unknown man, driving a silver-coloured Hackney cab style vehicle, approached the boys and asked if they would get into his car, saying he would drive them to school. The boys refused and the man drove away.
Police say that no attempts were made to take the children and a local Altrincham school was made aware to ensure “appropriate safeguarding” could be put in place.
Police also said that “extra patrols” had been laid on involving uniformed officers in the area.
The driver has been described as an Asian man in his late forties, who is balding with a black beard.
Officers are keeping an open mind as to his intentions and say they are pursuing “multiple lines of inquiry”.
They have appealed for the driver to come forward as well as anyone else who might have been in the Moss Lane area between 8.30 and 8.50am on Thursday.
Anyone with information should call 0161 856 7673, quoting 645 of 19/01/2023.
