Laura Sharrock, a solicitor at McHale & Co and also owner of womenswear shop Skanda, has been appointed chair of Altrincham’s Business Improvement District (The BID) board.
She takes over from Ewen Miller, from Calderpeel Architects, who has chaired the board since 2018.
As chair, Sharrock will be tasked with running and operating the board and ultimately ensuring that the business plan is being delivered through a range of events, projects and initiatives.
She said: “I have lived and worked in Altrincham all my life so have strong personal and professional ties to the area.
“I am a passionate supporter of local business, being a Director of McHale & Co and also having a family retail business in the form of Skanda.
“I can therefore bring a unique perspective to the board as I have concurrent experience in both professional services and retail which will, hopefully, let me see matters in the round.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Ewen for his huge contribution over the last five years and I’m delighted that he will be staying on as vice chair.”
Miller added: “I’m very pleased to be handing over the reins to Laura and, as an already active board member, we know she brings enthusiasm, positive influence and a strong vision to Altrincham.
“It has been a real pleasure to chair the BID Board and thank you to the other voluntary board members and the team.
“There have been some fantastic highlights during my tenure including the Great British High Street win, Altrincham playing host to the start of the final stage of the Tour of Britain, an overwhelmingly positive reballot in 2020 and more recently Trooping the Corgis. I look forward to continuing to play a part in my new role as vice chair.”
