Police have called on dog owners to be “extra vigilant” after two dogs died after being walked in an Altrincham park.

Police believe the dogs may have eaten or picked up something while in the bushes at Woodstock Park in Broadheath.

They say that the owners did not notice anything was wrong with their pets until they subsequently became ill.

Trafford Council, which owns the park, has been notified of the issue and will be making a visit.

Greater Manchester Police say they will update once they have the results of the visit.

A statement from GMP Trafford South said: “We have received reports that 2 dogs have sadly died over the last few weeks after being walked on Woodstock Park, Broadheath, Altrincham.

“These dogs had a free run of the park and may have eaten/picked up something whilst in the bushes. The owner did not notice anything until the dogs became ill afterwards.

“We are aware of local Facebook pages that have posted regarding these incidents and we ask that dog owners be extra vigilant with their pets when in the park.

“Trafford Council is aware and are conducting a site visit.

“At this time we are not aware of any risk to the public regarding this incident and will put out an update when we have the results of the site visit.”
