Altrincham looks set to lose its only lap-dancing club after plans were submitted to close it down and transform the building into apartments.
Totties has been a fixture on The Causeway in Altrincham town centre for many years and had its licence renewed by Trafford Council as recently as 2020.
However, owner Roy Dodd died in December 2020 and the building’s owner, Elias Altrincham Properties, has now opted to redevelop the whole site which also includes a three-bay commercial unit that currently houses The Works and Pita Box on George Street.
The plans states that the commercial units will be retained but the area above transformed into eight apartments.
Although the site lies within the George Street Conservation Area, the building is a more modern structure built from concrete, glass and brick and, according to the application prepared by County Planning Ltd, “utilitarian and out of keeping”.
The planning document states: “This application seeks full permission for renewal, renovation and significant improvements to the design and appearance of a building which is presently acknowledged as being a detractor from the quality and heritage value of the Conservation Area more widely.
“Approval of the application would allow the extension and alteration to the building, as well as the cessation of a low-value commercial use at first floor.”
The application does not any provision for parking spaces, which it says is “recognition of the wider spatial objective to make the core town centre a traffic-free pedestrian area”.
