Connor Rand, a former Labour organiser and a senior researcher at shopworkers’ union Usdaw, is the new Labour candidate for Altrincham and Sale West.
An announcement from the Labour Party last night confirmed that Rand had been selected to stand in the seat at the general election on July 4th.
The former Labour candidate, Ben Hartley, resigned two weeks ago, citing "personal circumstances".
Rand said: "I am so proud to have been selected as the Labour Party’s candidate for Altrincham and Sale West for the upcoming General Election.
"This election is crucial. It’s our chance to change Britain for the better, after 14 years of Tory misrule.
"Over the next five weeks I’ll be out every day, talking to voters and making the case for change. I hope to see you on the Labour Doorstep."
According to his LinkedIn page, Rand is currently a senior researcher for the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw).
Before that he worked as a regional organiser for the Labour Party and a campaigns and membership officer for Labour Students.
He has a degree in history from the University of East Anglia and attended Wisbech Grammar School in Cambridgeshire.
The selection was welcomed by Andrew Western, the candidate for Stretford and Urmston, who stood for election in Altrincham and Sale West at the election in 2019.
Western said: "Congratulations to Connor on his selection next door in Altrincham and Sale West.
"I have known Connor for years as a campaigner, as a policy specialist and as a proud trade unionist."
Cllr Tom Ross, the leader of Trafford Council, added: "Congratulations to Connor, one of the strong candidates to put themselves forward for Altrincham and Sale West.
"A great constituency and I look forward to working with you on your campaign. I cannot wait to see you as our first Labour MP."
Altrincham and Sale West's other candidates are Oliver Carroll (Conservative), Geraldine Coggins (Green), Jane Brophy (Liberal Democrat) and Paul Swansborough (Reform UK).
The seat is likely to be hotly contested this election following Sir Graham Brady's decision to stand down. Brady has held the seat since 1997.
