Lloyds Bank has confirmed it will close its Altrincham branch this summer, leaving the town without a Lloyds presence for the first time in decades.
The Stamford New Road branch is among 53 Lloyds sites across the UK set to close between May 2026 and March 2027, the banking group announced today.
The closure forms part of a wider cull affecting 95 branches across Lloyds Banking Group, which also includes Halifax and Bank of Scotland.
Lloyds said the shift towards online and app-based banking was behind the decision.
A spokeswoman for Lloyds Banking Group said: “Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before.

“From our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service to local banking options like our community bankers, PayPoint and access to all of our Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, we’re giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.”
However, the news is likely to concern older residents and those without reliable internet access who depend on in-person banking services.
Unlike some affected locations, Altrincham has not been earmarked for a banking hub - shared facilities staffed by different banks on a rotating basis.
Once all planned closures are complete, Lloyds Banking Group will operate 610 branches nationwide, down from more than 2,000 a decade ago.
Customers with questions about the closure can contact Lloyds directly or visit the branch before it shuts for the final time on June 9th.
