Double blow for Moss Lane as two independent food businesses close

"We have had no choice but to make this incredibly difficult decision."

Two independent food businesses in Altrincham town centre have closed down.

Fusion Plate Altrincham and Jenna Patties, located just a couple of doors apart on Moss Lane, have both shut up shop.

Fusion Plate, which opened in December 2023 in the former Nerd Cafe premises, has placed a notice announcing its closure.

The message, headed "A Farewell... For Now", says the decision was made "with great sadness" and attributes the closure to "unprecedented personal circumstances".

It reads: "Due to unprecedented personal circumstances, we have had no choice but to make this incredibly difficult decision. It has been made with great care and after exploring every possible option."

The owners thanked customers, friends and supporters for their loyalty over the past two years, describing Fusion Plate as "more than just a restaurant" where "friendships were built, memories were shared, and our passion for food was brought to life".

The statement adds: "Although this chapter has come to an end, we hope it is not goodbye forever."

Fusion Plate specialised in a mix of international dishes and replaced Nerd Cafe at the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Caribbean bakery Jenna Patties has also closed.

The business is now listed as permanently closed on Google, while the contents of the shop have been removed from inside the premises.

Jenna Patties had opened in autumn 2024

Jenna Patties opened in autumn 2024 after founder Jenna Walker transformed the former Bumkins childrenswear shop into a premium Caribbean bakery.

Speaking to Altrincham Today at the time, Jenna explained that she had learnt to cook from her Jamaican grandmother before turning a lockdown baking hobby into a business.

The bakery quickly developed a following for its freshly baked Jamaican patties, breads and cakes, with Jenna often beginning work at 4.30am to prepare dough fresh each morning.

She described her ambition as showcasing the "premium" side of Caribbean food using high-quality ingredients sourced from local suppliers.
