GCSE Results Day 2026: How Altrincham's schools performed

We're rounding up some of the local schools' results this morning.

Schools across Altrincham are celebrating another strong year at GCSE, with top grades well above the national average.

Here's a breakdown of some of our local schools on results day 2026.

Celebrating students at Loreto Grammar this morning

Half of all GCSE grades at Loreto Grammar awarded top marks

Students at Loreto Grammar School collected their GCSE results this morning, with half of all grades awarded at grade 8 or 9 and three quarters at grades 7-9.

In total, 25.5% of all grades were grade 9s.

The results cap a strong week of public examination results for the Dunham Road school, which last week celebrated record-breaking A Level outcomes that included 21.7 per cent of grades at A* and seven students heading to Oxford or Cambridge.

A spokesperson for the school said: "We are, once again, delighted with the excellent outcomes at GCSE, completing a happy week of public examination results for Loreto students following last week's superb A Level results. These successes are richly deserved."

Director of Sixth Form Mr Newman said he is looking forward to welcoming the majority of the year group back to Loreto Sixth Form at the start of September.

Ninety-seven per cent of students achieved the English Baccalaureate, securing GCSE passes in English language and literature, mathematics, the sciences, geography or history, and a language.

Stephanie Gill, Principal at AGGS, said: "Today students at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls are celebrating an incredible set of results in their GCSE examinations.

"The pandemic brought many challenges for this cohort during their first year of study at AGGS. They responded with resilience and hard work; they fully deserve these fantastic results.

"Our students' achievements also reflect the dedication of our teachers and the quality of the support provided by our staff. We are extremely proud of each and every one of our students and would like to congratulate them on all they have achieved."

Wellington School: Attainment and progress well above national average

Wellington School students and staff have been celebrating a strong set of GCSE results this morning, with attainment and progress figures once again well above both national and local averages.

The Timperley school has posted consistently high outcomes for a number of years.

Headteacher Stuart Beeley said: "We are all delighted with yet another set of outstanding results and we could not be more proud of the achievement of our young people.

"While many students have performed exceptionally as individuals, we are particularly thrilled with the sustained success of our disadvantaged and SEND students, as well as those who speak English as a foreign language. The exceptional performance of these groups is testament to the ambition we have for every young person and to the dedication of our students, staff and wider school community.

"We could not be more proud of what this year group has achieved."
