Happy birthday Hilda! Hale Barns resident enjoys party as she turns 108

A resident at a care home in Hale Barns has celebrated her 108th birthday with a surprise party with family and friends.

Altrincham-born Hilda Waterhouse, who is the 60th oldest woman in Britain, enjoyed her very special birthday celebration at Care UK’s Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road.

To celebrate, the care home team decorated the lounge with balloons and banners, and the home’s head chef baked a special birthday cake.

Hilda was born on 1st July 1915 and married her husband, Charles, in 1939 at St George’s Church in Altrincham.

The couple moved to Sale where they had two daughters, Beryl and Judith.

A passionate cook, Hilda enjoyed trying new cuisines at local restaurants and on family holidays.

Suzi Sumegi, General Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “Here at Halecroft Grange, we believe that every special milestone deserves a party – and Hilda’s 108th birthday is no exception.

“It was wonderful to help her celebrate this special day with her family and friends and to raise a glass to Hilda. Hilda is a much-loved resident at the home – cheers to Hilda.”
