Two men have been arrested after a police chase through Hale village this afternoon that ended with a Taser being deployed.
At around 4pm, officers became aware of a white Audi driving erratically but when they attempted to stop the car, it drove off.
A short time later it was located on Cecil Road in Hale, but when officers attempted to speak to the occupants, they became aggressive.
A foot chase then ensued before – with the help of nearby security men and the use of a Taser gun – two men in their 20s were detained close to Hale Library.
Footage from the scene showed a significant police response of around eight vehicles, with stunned passers-by watching on as one of the men was loaded into the back of a police van on Leigh Road in handcuffs.
One man was arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker, resisting arrest, escaping lawful custody and assault.
A second man was arrested on suspicion of affray. Both have been taken into custody.
An officer sustained minor injuries during the incident but did not require further treatment.
