A fire at an electricity substation sent a big plume of black smoke over the Altrincham Retail Park this morning.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that three of their appliances attended a fire on George Richards Way. The fire is thought to have started shortly after 9am.
A large plume of black smoke was seen over the site, which backs on to Craven Road, and local residents reported a brief power cut and a loud bang.
The fire service quickly brought the fire under control by around 10am.
Engineers from Electricity North West are now carrying out work that “may cause a loss of power to some properties”, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service tweeted.
Several roads are closed in the area including part of George Richards Way and Craven Road.
