Historic Altrincham pub closed and two arrested on prostitution charges

Officers from Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council’s Community Safety Team carried out a search warrant on the Railway Inn on Manchester Road in Broadheath.

A historic Altrincham pub has been closed and two people arrested on suspected prostitution offences after a raid by police.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council’s Community Safety Team carried out a search warrant on the Railway Inn on Manchester Road in Broadheath.

They found "significant evidence" that the property was being used to "offer sexual services for reward".

They also discovered a vulnerable woman who was said to have been "trafficked from outside Trafford to work there".

Two people were subsequently arrested on suspicion of crimes relating to controlling prostitution for gain, and earlier today magistrates at Manchester Magistrates' Court served the pub with a closure order following an application from the council.

The pub - which is a Grade II-listed building dating back to the mid-1800s - will now be closed for three months while its license is reviewed.
