A man who assaulted a police officer after failing to stop near Navigation Road station has been sentenced.

Malachi Hewitt-Brown, of Harley Road in Sale, appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday 11th October where he pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, driving without insurance and failing to stop when required to do so.

It's understood that the 20-year-old had been driving in Timperley on the evening of Wednesday 9th October, despite not having insurance.

When asked to stop by a police officer, he refused to do so and the car was subsequently involved in a collision involving railings near to Navigation Road station.

Hewitt-Brown then attempted to escape on foot and assaulted a male police officer in the process.

He was eventually arrested, shirtless, on Brook Avenue.

At the sentencing hearing on Friday, Hewitt-Brown was handed a community order, requiring him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the police officer he assaulted and had six points added to his driving licence.
