BREAKING: Firefighters tackling major blaze close to Altrincham Retail Park

It started at around noon today.

Firefighters are at the scene of a major fire that has broken out close the Altrincham Retail Park.

A large plume of black smoke has been seen over the park since around 12 noon.

The fire appears to have broken out at the J Davidson scrap yard.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have just issued a statement urging residents to keep doors and windows closed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around midday today (Saturday, 22nd March), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Craven Road in Altrincham.

"Four fire engines from Stretford, Altrincham, Sale and Wythenshawe fire stations, along with the aerial appliance from Manchester Central fire station quickly arrived at the scene, where a number of vehicles had caught fire at a scrap yard.

"Firefighters remain at the scene as they work to extinguish the fire, and ask residents to keep doors and windows closed.”
