Man charged over attack on 12-year-old boy in Timperley

An update on this serious incident.

A man has been charged following an attack that left a 12-year-old boy injured in Timperley last week.

Adithya Ramamoorthy, 21, of Vale Road, Timperley, has been charged with section 18 assault and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today.

The charges relate to an incident on Friday 21st November, when a 12-year-old boy was stabbed with a weapon - believed to be a long tool or screwdriver - while walking with three friends, all aged 12, along Stockport Road near Vale Road at around 6.30pm.

The boy suffered puncture wounds to his side and back and was treated at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for treatment.

A section 18 assault, under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, refers to wounding or causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Inspector Karl Perry from GMP's Trafford district said: "Since our appeal for information, we have been working tirelessly on this investigation as we understand it will have caused concern to the local community.

"Incidents like this have no place on our streets and we will continue to work to ensure the appropriate action is taken."
