Teenager arrested after unknown powder thrown on man at Altrincham Interchange

A teenager has been arrested after an unknown powder was thrown over a man at Altrincham Interchange this evening, prompting a major response that temporarily shut down the bus station.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident, which saw emergency services called to the interchange at around 6.20pm, with police, paramedics and fire crews all attending the scene.

A cordon was erected and remained in place for several hours, while bus services were suspended as a precaution.

No injuries have been reported, though the man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. The powder is not currently believed to be harmful.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and possession of class B drugs, and remains in custody for questioning.

Emergency service vehicles were seen parked along Stamford New Road throughout the incident.

The Bee Network confirmed the interchange was closed to bus services from around 7.30pm. It reopened at approximately 9pm.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers are responding to an incident at Altrincham Interchange. At approximately 6.20pm this evening an unknown powder was thrown on a man.

“Emergency services attended and at this time no injuries have been reported however he has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and possession of class B drugs, and remains in custody for questioning.”
