More schools have been closed across Altrincham today as the Arctic start to the new year continues.

Temperatures again fell to well below zero last night and were still at around -7C at 7am this morning.

The big freeze has forced a number of local schools to close their doors to pupils today.

These include:

  • Altrincham C.E. Aided Primary School, Altrincham
  • Altrincham College, Altrincham
  • Altrincham Preparatory School, Altrincham
  • Bowdon Church School, Bowdon
  • Elmridge Primary School, Hale Barns
  • Oldfield Brow Primary School, Altrincham
  • Pictor Academy, Timperley

In total, more than 60 schools around Greater Manchester have closed their doors today.

At Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, however, tractors were deployed after school on Thursday to ensure that the school was able to open this morning.

Loreto Grammar was also open once again, as is St Ambrose College, Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Altrincham Grammar School for Girls.

Wellington School in Timperley is open but will be closing at the earlier time of 2.30pm to assist with travel home.
