Following a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process, The Hamblin Education Trust and the Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (AGSB) Board of Governors are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Ian Dicksee as the 10th Head Master of AGSB, effective from September 2026.
Mr Dicksee is a History graduate of the University of Manchester. He completed his teacher training at Canterbury Christ Church University and went on to achieve a Distinction in his Master’s in Educational Leadership and Management at the University of Nottingham.
His career includes a range of middle leadership roles across three schools before he moved into senior leadership at Cannock Chase High School in Staffordshire. In 2017, he joined Newcastle-under-Lyme School (NULS) - named The Sunday Times Top Independent School in Staffordshire 2026 - as Deputy Head (Academic).
Mr Dicksee brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. During his time at NUS, he has led all aspects of the School’s academic provision, including curriculum development, teaching and learning, and staff development.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr Dicksee said: “I am deeply privileged to be appointed as the new Head Master at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, one of the country’s leading State Grammar Schools.

"It is clear that AGSB is a truly exceptional community, defined by its outstanding academic outcomes, as well as its positive school values and nurturing, holistic ethos.
"I look forward to working with our staff, students, parents, and the wider Hamblin Education Trust to build on these excellent foundations and ensure AGSB continues to provide the best possible all-round education that will successfully equip our students for life now, and beyond school.”
Mr Dicksee succeeds Graeme Wright, who will take up a new Headship at Old Swinford Hospital School after eight years of exceptional service to AGSB.
