Plans have been revealed to transform a prime location in Altrincham into an oriental supermarket.

Proposals have been submitted to Trafford Council to make a series of alterations to the unit currently occuped by Tim Hortons on Cross Street.

The Canadian coffee chain has already confirmed it is to move out of the unit in early September after just three and a half years in the town.

And now planning documents have revealed that the Chi Yip Group is behind the move.

Established in 1980 by the late Stewart Yip, Chi Yip operates from a 62,000 sq ft warehouse in Middleton.

It is also behind the Hello Oriental online supermarket and the Ocean Treasure restaurant in Middleton.

The plans include proposals for a food hatch

There’s no information yet as to what the new Altrincham base would be called, but the planning document visuals show the brand ‘Sipp’.

The plans also include the remodelling of the exterior of the building to create an open food hatch.

The other plans for the site, which is located within the Stamford New Road Conservation Area, include new signage and aluminium panels.

The site is currently occupied by Tim Hortons
