Asda reveals opening date for new Hale Barns store

It follows Booths' decision to move out of the village after nine years.

Asda has revealed the opening date for its new store in Hale Barns.

We exclusively revealed in February that the Yorkshire-headquartered supermarket chain would be taking over the lease of the store on Hale Road after the decision by Booths to move out of the village after nine years.

Booths had opened there in April 2015 as anchor tenant of the Hale Barns Square development, but struggled to attract the expected footfall and closed its doors for the final time on April 7th.

For the past few weeks Asda has been carrying out a refurbishment and has now confirmed it will open on Tuesday 28th May.

The store will feature a refurbished cafe, lottery and parcel collection, as well as over 160 parking spaces.

More changes will be announced in the coming days.

Signage is now up at the new Asda in Hale Barns

Opening times will be from 7am – 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm each Sunday.

The store will be given a monthly budget to support local causes and will be matched with a local Trussell Trust food bank to donate food. It will also fundraise for Asda’s national supported charities, Tickled Pink and Children in Need.

Feroz Patel, Asda’s VP Retail Central, said: “We’re delighted to be able to confirm the opening date of our Hale Barns store.

"This opening marks another milestone moment for us as we bring Asda’s uncompromising value and quality to even more customers and take another step towards meeting our ambition of becoming the UK's number two supermarket by market share.

“Work on the store is now well underway and we are incredibly excited about joining the Hale Barns community and sharing more details on our exciting plans in the coming weeks.”

In February, Asda announced it had acquired the property lease for the store, which was previously owned by Booths.

Booths employees at the store were given the opportunity to move to the new tenant under a TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment rights) process.

The Hale Barns site represents Asda's second main store in Altrincham, having opened a purpose-built store in Broadheath in September 2015.
