Bowdon's Co-op store to reopen after £1.3m transformation

There's still no post office, however.

The Co-op store on Vicarage Lane in Bowdon is set to reopen this Thursday following a major £1.3 million refurbishment.

The 13-week programme of works has given the nearly 2,100 square foot store a complete makeover, with the revamped shop set to support 13 local jobs when it opens its doors at 7am on Thursday. The store will operate daily from 7am to 10pm.

The reopening comes months after the Post Office branch that was previously housed within the store closed in February, following the resignation of its operator.

Local councillors and MP Connor Rand had expressed disappointment at the closure, with efforts made to find an alternative location in Bowdon Vale. The refurbished Co-op will not include a Post Office service.

Among the new features is a Costa Coffee Express machine, self-service tills and an expanded Click and Collect service through Co-op's online platform. Customers will also be able to order through Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat.

The updated store layout places greater emphasis on food-to-go options and meal deals, alongside hot food, Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers, ready meals, beers and wines.

It follows the Co-op's recent opening of a new 'on the go' store in Altrincham town centre.

Stephen Bogg, the store manager, said: "The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to invest in our Vicarage Lane store - the works will be really transformative, with a fresh new look and layout it looks fantastic.

"We would really like to thank the community for their support during the works. We are proud to be part of the local community, and with a focus on delivering the quality, choice, value and added services which can be enjoyed by everyone."

The store will also feature soft plastic recycling facilities, allowing shoppers to return items such as crisp packets, bread bags, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches.
