Music by much-loved English composers Benjamin Britten, John Ireland and Gerald Finzi will be performed by the Lancashire Chamber Orchestra at their Spring Concert in Altrincham later this month.
The concert will be held at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls on Sunday 23rd March.
The special guests will be tenor Oscar Bowen-Hill and French horn virtuoso Alec Frank-Gemmill, who will both be soloists in Britten’s beautiful Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings.
Alec is a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist who is equally at home on stage playing with some of the world’s major orchestras, both as a horn soloist and section leader.
Oscar is making his LCO debut and enjoying a busy season of solo work, ranging from Fauré’s La Bonne Chanson at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music to performances with the Oxford Bach Soloists and a solo recital in London.
The programme opens with Gerald Finzi’s lyrical Prelude for String Orchestra and ends with the Downland Suite by John Ireland, who was born close to the concert venue in Bowdon in 1879.
The Lancashire Chamber Orchestra will again be under the baton of conductor Robert Chasey, former violin section leader with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, with Cathy Morrissey as orchestral leader.
Tickets cost £12, with children free, including a programme. They may be reserved in advance by ringing the LCO box office on 07941 826511. For more information, visit https://lancashirechamberorchestra.co.uk.
