Dunham Massey's annual May Day tradition is set to break new ground this year with the introduction of a Rose Duke to join the traditional Rose Queen in the festivities taking place this Saturday, May 10th.
Ten-year-old Summer Grace O'Rourke, from Manor Park Primary School, will be crowned as this year's Rose Queen.
Summer, a Taylor Swift fan who enjoys reading and attending Girl Guides, has participated in the May Day celebrations since she was six years old, previously appearing as characters including Heihei from Moana and a playing card.
In a historic first for the event, seven-year-old Harry Mortlock from Stamford Park Primary School will be crowned as the inaugural Rose Duke.
Harry, who moved to Dunham last summer, is "a little bit nervous but very excited to be chosen to be part of the parade as it's his first one", according to his mother.
Event organizer Sally Potts explained the significance of this year's changes: "We are really pleased to have Summer and Harry as our Rose Queen and Rose Duke this year.
"All of the children in our community are encouraged to take part in this traditional event that brings the village together and raises vital funds."
The festivities will begin with a procession from The Dunham Barn through the village at 1pm, followed by the crowning ceremony at the Village Hall at 2pm, which will be performed by the Bishop of Stockport.
This year's theme is 'Book Characters' with prizes available for fancy dress entries for anyone wishing to join the procession. Summer has chosen the Salvation Army as her charity.
The celebration will feature traditional games, face painting, stalls, a fun dog show, Morris dancing, a brass band, raffle, BBQ, pizzas and more at the Village Hall. Entry costs £1 for adults, while children can attend for free.
