Altrincham residents will not have to renew expired parking permits until the end of lockdown, Trafford Council has confirmed.
The council said that to help people forced to work from home due to the Covid lockdown, they will not be enforcing parking measures in resident permit areas across the whole of the borough.
The move means that residents do not need to renew permits which are coming to an end until the end of the lockdown period.
Those people without permits who now have to stay at home will also not need to purchase a permit until they are advised to do so.
Cllr Steve Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive member for Environmental and Regulatory Services, said: “The current Covid lockdown has changed everything and means the vast majority of us are now working from home.
“Trafford Council recognises this and thinks it is unfair to charge people who are normally parking at their workplace. The closure of schools also means that more people are at home during this time. It would be unfair to penalise people through no fault of their own and, for that reason, we are ceasing parking enforcement for resident permit areas until lockdown ends.”
All other parking restrictions, including parking charges, still apply during this time.
