Trafford Council reveals which Altrincham roads will have their potholes mended as part of £2.45m resurfacing work

There's also a programme of footway repairs.

A number of Altrincham roads are included in Trafford Council's £5.4million highway improvement programme for 2025, which has been unveiled today.

The One Trafford Partnership, a collaboration between Trafford Council and Amey, will oversee the programme which allocates £2.45 million specifically for resurfacing, reconstruction and surface dressing treatments across the borough.

Among the Altrincham roads earmarked for improvement is Clay Lane, which will undergo comprehensive resurfacing from Wellfield Lane to Hale Country Club. Sinderland Lane will also see significant enhancements from Birch Road to Woodcote Road.

In addition to road repairs, the council is investing in a targeted programme of footway repairs to enhance safety and accessibility throughout Trafford.

From June, the partnership will launch a programme of protective surface dressing works. This cost-effective maintenance method involves spraying bitumen onto the road surface and covering it with small stones which are then compacted. The technique creates a fresh protective layer that prevents water damage and improves vehicle grip while causing minimal disruption to traffic.

Last year's highway programme successfully completed over 59 repair schemes, covering 72,493 square metres of road.

Councillor Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Highways, Environmental & Traded Services, said: "We're investing in roads and better infrastructure to make our community safer and more connected, positively impacting everyone's daily lives."

Residents and businesses affected by the upcoming roadworks will be contacted directly by the highways team. Any necessary diversions or temporary traffic lights will be signposted before work begins to help people plan their journeys.

Surface treatment involves material being laid over the top of the old highway surface, extending the life of the road by up to 10 to 15 years.

Resurfacing means that some or all of the existing surface of the highway will be removed and replaced by a new surface layer.

Trafford Council says that other "more localised patching schemes" may also be carried out in addition to those schemes listed. Weather conditions may also impact start dates and times.
