Main Altrincham road to remain closed until next week - but there’s good news for motorists too

It closed earlier this week.

The extended closure of a major road in Altrincham is now confirmed to last until early next week, frustrating local motorists who have faced significant disruption since the road was first shut earlier this week.

The closure of a section of the A56 Dunham Road, spaning the section near Denzell Gardens between Bradgate Road and Charcoal Road, was initially put in place after two major water main bursts.

While United Utilities has successfully repaired the burst water main that caused the initial emergency, the focus has now shifted to repairing the significant damage to the road itself.

Trafford Council's One Trafford crews are also capitalising on the existing closure to bring forward essential planned resurfacing works.

This means approximately 350 metres of Dunham Road will be completely resurfaced to deliver a smoother, improved road surface for future journeys.

A spokesperson for the council confirmed: "To allow these essential works to take place safely, this section of the A56 will remain closed until early next week. A signed diversion route is in place."

Motorists have been reminded to follow the signed diversion routes, and Trafford has thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
