Altrincham Interchange steams ahead with double win at railway awards

A record 200 guests attended the ceremony.

Altrincham Interchange has picked up two awards at the annual Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards.

The station won the Cheshire Life Photographic Award, decided by public vote, for an image titled "Altrincham Library Knitters Poppies on Display", captured by Bev Robinson.

The station also received a High Commendation in the Railway 200 category, which recognised work carried out across Cheshire to mark the 200th anniversary of Britain's modern railways.

A record 200 guests attended the ceremony at Crewe Alexandra's Hybrid Lounge on Thursday 5th February, where 19 stations from across Cheshire were honoured. Trafford Mayor Cllr Jane Brophy was among 12 mayors present, with awards presented by transport journalist Tony Miles.

Romiley claimed the top prize of overall Best Kept Station for the first time, while several stations along the Mid Cheshire Line connecting Chester to Manchester via Altrincham were also recognised, including Delamere, Northwich, Lostock Gralam, Knutsford and Stockport.

Bev Robinson, from the Friends of Altrincham Interchange, said: "The CBKS awards evening is a fabulous event and it's wonderful to receive recognition for our hard-working volunteers.

"It's also a great opportunity to meet other volunteer groups and share stories and ideas. We are already working on our next projects to make Altrincham Interchange a more welcoming place."
