Council increases grey and blue bin allowance for Christmas rubbish

Bin collection days will change for one week over the festive period, with no collections taking place on Monday 26th December.

Bin collection days will change for one week over the festive period, with no collections taking place on Monday 26th December.

Collections will instead start on Tuesday 27th December, meaning residents should present their bin a day later than usual. The bin collection service will return to normal on January 2nd 2017.

And Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr John Reilly, said that residents will also be granted an extra rubbish allowance over the festive period.

He said: “The Council, through the One Trafford Partnership, is committed to ensuring local residents are able to dispose of the extra waste we know is created over the festive season.

“To help, people will be able to leave up to two small bags of rubbish by the side of their grey bin on its first collection after Christmas. Please note that any extra waste placed to the side of the bin after this first collection will not be removed.

“We will also collect any extra cardboard left at the side of the blue recycling bin on collection day. Alternatively if you cannot wait, please call us for a free collection of cardboard.”

Any households with additional waste may wish to take it to one of the recycling centres on Chester Road, Stretford or Sinderland Lane, Altrincham. The centres are open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
