Government confirms reopening date for gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres

Gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres have finally been given the green light to reopen.

Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, has this evening confirmed that they will be allowed to reopen from Saturday July 25th.

He stressed that timed bookng systems, spaced-out equipment, reduced-size classes and enhanced cleaning regimes would be required.

The news is a boost for the likes of Pure Gym and Total Fitness, which have Altrincham centres, and Altrincham Leisure Centre.

Recently, Total Fitness gave an insight into how it has redesigned its Altrincham gym to comply with social distancing regulations.

The footage of its Denmark Street health club showing how the reception areas, changing rooms, gym floor, class facilities and pool area will now operate.

Dowden also confirmed that outdoor pools will be able to re-open on July 11th, grassroots sport will be able to return from this coming weekend and outdoor theatres will be able to start up from Saturday.
