Altrincham Leisure Centre will not be reopening next week, despite the government lifting restrictions at the end of lockdown.

The government has said that leisure and sports facilities in Tier 3 areas will be allowed to reopen next week, although group exercise classes are still banned.

However Trafford Leisure, which runs Altrincham Leisure Centre, said it has decided to keep its staff on furlough for now and reopen on January 4th.

It will though continue to live-stream online classes for free, including yoga, chair-based exercises and simple aerobics.

And Altrincham Golf Club and its Driving Range will be reopening on December 2nd.

Jo Cherrett, COO, Trafford Leisure, said: “We know some customers may be disappointed but we made our decision taking into account the long-term best outcome for our centres, our staff and of course our community.

“January is always the busiest time of the year for us, and after a difficult 2020, many people will want a fresh start for 2021, and we need to be ready to support them in their personal wellbeing goals.

“By remaining closed in December, our quietest time of the year, Trafford Leisure can mimimise its losses by continuing to furlough our staff and operations, and be in a better position to re-open in January.”
