A 29-year-old man has been charged following an incident in Hale yesterday which saw a Taser deployed after a police chase through the village.

Ricardo Poli, of Boardley Walk in Wythenshawe, has been charged with two counts of assault and obstructing a constable in the execution of duty.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

Two men were arrested after the incident shortly after 4pm yesterday afternoon.

Officers had spotted a white Audi driving erratically but when they attempted to stop the car, it drove off.

Soon after it was located on Cecil Road in Hale, but when officers attempted to speak to the occupants, they became aggressive.

A foot chase then ensued before, with the help of nearby security men and the use of a taser gun, two men were detained.

The incident required a significant police response of around eight vehicles.

An officer sustained minor injuries during the incident but did not require further treatment.
