Update: Two men have now been arrested on suspicion of murder

The man who was stabbed to death in Altrincham last is understood to be the cousin of world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Fury said on Instagram this morning that his cousin Rico Burton, 31, died last night after being “stabbed in the neck”.

Other sources have confirmed to Altrincham Today that this is the man who died in last night’s incident in Goose Green.

Fury wrote: “My cousin was murdered last night, stabbed in the neck, this is becoming ridiculous idiots carry knives.

“This needs to stop. ASAP, UK government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime, it’s a pandemic and you don’t know how bad it is until it’s 1 of your own!

“Life is very precious and it can be taken away very quick enjoy every moment. RIP RICO BURTON.”

Police have yet to officially confirm the name of the victim.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested.

The whole of the Goose Green area remains cordoned off as forensic experts conduct a thorough investigation of the scene.

Two blue forensics tents are set up on the paved area of Goose Green.

Witnesses at the scene reported that two males were stabbed in the incident.

One witness said she was in a bar when she heard a commotion and came out to see a man bleeding heavily from a neck wound.

She gave CPR for about 10 minutes before parademics arrived on the scene.

Sadly the man later died in hospital.

Forensic experts at the scene on Goose Green this morning

A 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with what police described as “serious” injuries.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police appealed for more information.

It read: “Police are appealing to the public for further information after two males were stabbed outside a bar in Altrincham.

“Shortly after 3am this morning (Sunday 21 August 2022), police were called to reports of two males having been stabbed outside a bar on Goose Green, Altrincham.

“Emergency services attended the scene. Two men were ruhed to hospital with serious and life-changing injuries. A 31-year-old male has sadly passed away a short time later in hospital. A 17-year-old male also remains in hospital with serious injuries.

“A 21 year-old male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody. A murder investigation has been launched and police would like to appeal to members of the public who have any further information regarding this incident.
