Two diverse but equally outstanding productions from National Theatre are coming live to Vue Altrincham and will form part of its September Big Screen Events calendar.
Johnny Carr, Alternative Content Manager at Vue UK and Ireland, said: “This September we will be bringing our customers a packed programme of Big Screen Events, with some of the best live theatre in the country at its centre, presented in amazing sound and picture quality.”
Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) and Eric Kofi Abrefa (The Amen Corner) feature in NT Live: Julie on Thursday 6th September. Wild and newly single, Julie throws a late night party, where Jean and Kristina clean up in the kitchen as the celebration heaves above them.
Crossing the threshold, Julie initiates a power game with Jean, which rapidly descends into a savage fight for survival. This new version of August Strindberg’s play Miss Julie remains shocking and fiercely relevant in its new setting of contemporary London.
Also being broadcast live in September from London’s West End is Sir Ian McKellen’s extraordinarily moving portrayal of King Lear. Jonathan Munby directs this nuanced and powerful contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play, which comes to Vue on Thursday 27th September.
Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a king and one his courier – reject the children who truly love them, plunging the family into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.
