Altrincham’s new state-of-the-art library is now open seven days a week.
The library, based on Pott Street in the town centre, is open until 9pm on weekdays and until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
A new Open+ system is now in place, allowing customers access to the building without staff being present.
Customers, who will gain entry using their library card and PIN, can borrow, return and renew books via the self-service kiosks and use the public access computers and wifi, printer and photocopier.
Community groups can also use the library for meetings. Staff will be present all day from Mondays to Saturdays and their hours will remain the same.
The library opened to the public in December and has seen an increase in visitor usage and in the numbers of books being borrowed.
Cllr Jane Baugh, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The new Open+ system is a fantastic addition and will allow customers to use the building without staff being there. This is very important for people who work during the day as they can now use the library at night.
“The library looks fantastic and is a great addition to the town centre. We are proud of this new facility and we know libraries are very important to residents of all ages not only in terms of raising levels of literacy but also for the pure enjoyment of reading.”
People can register for Open+ at any Trafford library with ID.
