Steinbeck masterpiece Of Mice and Men opens at Altrincham Garrick this week

It will run from May 8th to 18th.

John Steinbeck's enduring masterpiece Of Mice and Men will open at the Altrincham Garrick later this week.

The production, directed by Joseph Meighan, will run from May 8th to 18th, 2025.

This timely revival brings to life Steinbeck's poignant story of friendship and hardship set during America's Great Depression.

The narrative follows George and Lennie, two migrant workers pursuing their dream of owning land while battling the harsh realities of their circumstances.

Meighan's direction aims to highlight the play's enduring themes of economic inequality, racism, ableism and social isolation – issues that continue to resonate with modern audiences more than eight decades after the story's original publication.

"Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world... With us it ain't like that. We got a future," reads one of the play's most memorable lines, encapsulating the characters' desperate hope for belonging in an unforgiving world.

Tickets for this production range from £10.50 to £16.50 and can be purchased through the Altrincham Garrick website.
