"A powerhouse of emotion and song": Grammy-winning Carole King musical opens at the Altrincham Garrick tonight

The production features a treasure trove of timeless classics.

The curtain goes up at Altrincham Garrick tonight as Beautiful: The Carole King Musical opens for a week-long run.

The Tony and Grammy award-winning musical, which runs until Sunday 29th June, chronicles the remarkable journey of Carole Klein, the Brooklyn teenager who became Carole King, the legendary singer-songwriter behind some of the most cherished songs in popular music.

Under the direction of Joseph Meighan, with musical direction by Mark Goggins, the production charts King's meteoric rise from her early days writing hits with husband Gerry Goffin to her groundbreaking solo career and the creation of Tapestry, one of the best-selling albums of all time.

The production features a treasure trove of timeless classics that defined a generation, including You've Got a Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, One Fine Day, Up on the Roof and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

"Bringing Carole's story to the Garrick stage has been an extraordinary journey," said director Joseph Meighan.

"Our production captures not just her musical genius, but the heart and tenacity behind the legend. I can't wait for audiences to experience this powerhouse of emotion and song."

The musical, with a book by Douglas McGrath and featuring the actual words and music of Goffin & King alongside Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, also explores the creative partnerships and personal relationships that shaped King's life.
