Bowdon Prep pupil, 11, beats older rivals to win piano prize at festival

Bridget had passed her Grade 8 piano exam at the age of just 10 last year.

An 11-year-old pianist from Altrincham has taken first place in the Grade 8 piano category at this year's Alderley Edge Music Festival - beating older competitors to claim the top prize.

Bridget Chung, a pupil at Bowdon Preparatory School for Girls, was the youngest competitor in her category at the long-running annual festival, which concluded with a finale concert last Saturday evening.

She was among just 16 performers selected from more than 1,500 entrants across over 150 classes to appear in the prestigious finale.

Bridget passed her Grade 8 piano exam at the age of 10 last year and is already preparing for Diploma level examinations.

She has competed at the Alderley Edge Music Festival every year since 2022, picking up awards each time, but this year's first-place finish marks her biggest achievement to date.

As well as her solo studies, Bridget is an active member of the choir and orchestra at Bowdon Prep.

Looking ahead, she plans to continue working towards her Diploma and hopes to take part in further competitions and performances.
