Altrincham FC manager Lee Sinnott gives us the inside track on the Robins’ progress this season in the Vanarama National League. Here’s his latest column for Altrincham Today.
It feels an age since last Saturday when we played Cheltenham Town at the J Davidson Stadium. I must thank you all once again for your support that day, the atmosphere at home is playing a big part this season in making our ground a fortress.
Against Cheltenham we’ve didn’t play as well as we have done previously. We’ve probably played better football against Tranmere and Grimsby to be honest, but good football doesn’t always win you football matches.
Tim Deasy has made some important saves and we’ve defended well. I was delighted with how clinical we were when we created clear goalscoring opportunities for ourselves and that has turned out to be the difference in a 2-1 victory.
Sam Heathcote is a great lad and what a way to make his debut scoring the winner in stoppage time! He’s very quiet and laid back but at the same time extremely determined to succeed. Sam came on in an unfamiliar position to add height and help see out a point. In the end he’s scored the winning goal and we’re delighted for him and his family.
This weekend we are back on the road, this time to play Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. It was a very strange game there last season but going to a place like Wrexham and winning was a great achievement and one that we want to repeat this campaign.
They’ve started brightly with Gary Mills at the helm. We know what kind of football he likes to play and how he sets his sides up.
We’ll need to make good use of the ball when we have it and show that clinical quality in front of goal like we did against Cheltenham. Putting points on the board away from home has to start happening if we want to kick on this season, our home form has given ourselves a cushion and now we desperately need to translate that into results on the road.
Don’t forget that we’ll be back at the J Davidson Stadium the following Tuesday to play Eastleigh. Regardless of the result against Wrexham we’ll be looking forward to playing another highly fancied team in the division at home. Hopefully you can be there and help us keep our home run going.
