The Conservatives have secured another by-election victory in Altrincham, winning the Hale ward last night just weeks after their success in Broadheath.

Natalie Shalom won 1,521 votes, gaining the seat for the Tories from the Green Party, whose candidate Orla Weir polled 1,245 votes.

Reform UK came third with 264, Labour fourth with 138 and Jason Stack in fifth with 101. The turnout was 41.7%.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Green councillor Owain Sutton, who cited health challenges when stepping down from his position last month.

The result means the Conservatives now have 10 councillors on Trafford Council, consolidating their position as the main opposition to Labour's controlling administration.

New councillor Shalom said: "I would like to thank first and foremost the residents for having faith in me and to tell them that I will work hard every single day to be the best councillor they've had in Hale."

She added that the local Conversative team had been "mind-blowingly amazing" and that it had been a "privilege" to be part of the campaign.

Cllr Nathan Evans, leader of the Conservatives in Trafford, said Shalom would be a "fantastic councillor".

"Hale's been let down for four years," he added. "It's the same as everywhere in Trafford. We've got a Labour administration that's letting us down. It needs passionate local councillors to speak up for the residents."

Weir said she was "disappointed" to have lost the seat.

"Thank you so much to all of those who supported us. We're disappointed not to have made it over the line this time," she said.

"Along with Couns Jane Leicester and Hannah Spencer, I will continue to work hard for our area - listening to residents, speaking up on the issues that matter to the public, holding the Labour council to account."

The victory follows the Conservatives' win in Broadheath last month, where Dr Kaushik Chakraborty defeated Labour candidate Mahvish Masood by 1,614 votes to 978.

Labour remains in overall control of Trafford Council with 41 councillors, while the Conservatives now have 10. The Liberal Democrats hold seven seats and the Green Party has five following this result.
