One of Altrincham's best-loved fish and chip shops has changed hands - but is very much staying in the family.

Grove Lane Chippy has been a fixture on Grove Lane in Timperley for several decades, and was actually purpose-built as a chip shop way back in 1932.

It's been successfully run for the last 21 years by Chris Mairs, who has recently retired and passed on the business to his daughter and son in law, Anneka and Steven Davies.

Steven, 41, is already experienced in the hospitality industry having worked as a pastry chef around Manchester and, for the last 11 years, as head chef at a local care home.

He will look after the chippy on a day-to-day basis.

His wife Anneka, 39, will continue to work as a seamstress as the owner of another Timperley village business, Button and Bride.

Since taking over, the pair have extended opening hours at the chippy and also introduced more items to the menu, including a greater variety of vegetarian options.

Anneka told us: "I'm proud to continue the legacy of our family business. We're looking forward to serving traditional fish and chips for many years from our hut in Timperley."

The new owners have also extended the opening hours - it's now open from 11.45am-2pm and 4.30-7.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday; 11.45am-2pm and 4.30-8pm on Friday and 4.30-7.30pm on Saturday.
