The Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is attempting to track down the lorry driver responsible for damage caused to the facade of Altrincham Hospital.
A passing motorist saw the lorry reverse into the brick facade while attempting a three-point turn on Railway Street on Sunday morning.
The lorry’s registration number has now been passed on to the Trust, who will be looking to ensure the cost of the damage is covered by the driver’s insurance.
In the meantime, the Trust is now seeking to repair the damage “urgently” as it has been added to the hospital’s risk register.
It will tender the job to contractors and scaffolding and a pedestrian diversion will be required to complete the work.
Ben Guymer, Assistant Building Surveyor for the Trust’s Property and Estates Development, also said he would be liaising with Trafford Council about putting in measures to prevent a similar incident occurring again.
He said: “Going forward, it may be that we need to change the road arrangements or install bollards so that vehicles hit the bollards before they hit the building. We’ll be liaising with the Council to work out the best solution.”
The state-of-the-art, £17m community hospital opened in April 2015 after two years of construction led by Cheshire-based Pochin’s Ltd.
