The construction of the new South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre, on the site of the former Altrincham Hospital on Market Street, is to start at the end of the month.
Confirmation of the timescale follows the appointment of the main contractor, Bowmer and Kirkland (B&K).
NHS Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Trafford Council are working with Citybranch Ltd on the four-floor development, which has been designed by AFL Architects.
It will incorporate GP health services, a new Altrincham Library and Tourist Information Centre, the Trafford Co-ordination Centre, a mix of community services and therapies and a pharmacy.
There will also be clinical suites and training areas, including a minor surgery suite, alongside retail space and a café.
B&Ks first task will be to remove the existing hospital sub-structure and construct the underground car park with 100 spaces, five disabled bays and a cycle store.
Hale-based demolition contractors, McAuliffe’s, recently completed the demolition of the Victorian hospital prior to Christmas.
