Police are looking to speak to two people in connection with an arson attack on a flat in Timperley.
A fire started in the bedroom of the flat on Hartford Gardens at around 10am on Friday, February 20th.
No one was inside the flat at the time but neighbouring flats were damaged by smoke and the tenants needed to be evacuated.
Now police have launched an investigation after it was confirmed the blaze was started deliberately.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and bailed until March 17th pending further police enquiries, and police want to speak to two people who were seen walking away from the flats soon after the blaze.
Detective Constable Paul Walls said: “This was a reckless act that put residents at a significant risk. Although no one was injured, homes have been damaged by smoke which will cost thousands of pounds to repair.
“According to witnesses, two people were seen walking away at the back of the flats shortly after the fire was started and we are keen to speak to them.
“One man is described as being in his 20s or 30s, 5ft 10in tall, of heavy build, wore a dark coloured bobble hat, had fair hair with long sideburns, wore a dark green jacket, and dark trousers.
“The second is described as being white, wore a dark coloured hooded top and dark trousers.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen these two people at the time of the fire to contact us. I would also urge the two people themselves to come forward and eliminate themselves from our enquiries.”
